Turkey is presently doing a major effort in earthquake research on land [e.g. Inan et al, 2007]. To ensure the durability of the marine programme, it is of critical importance to ensure coordination with the on-going land programmes and involve the national and local authorities in Turkey, such as the Planning Organization (DPT), TUBITAK (Scientific and Technological Council of Turkey) and Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) (see section 4.2 for proposed actions).
